The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed optimism that the US and Iran could reach an agreement over his country’s nuclear energy program. Italy hosted the talks with the Omani mediator issuing a less optimistic statement following the talks.
“This round was one of the most professional stages of negotiations we have ever experienced. In this meeting, the positions and principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the negotiation process were once again presented with complete transparency,” Abbas Araghchi said.
He continued, “Although we have not yet reached the final agreement stage, the atmosphere prevailing in today’s negotiations, especially given the proposals made by Oman to remove obstacles, has strengthened the possibility of achieving progress.”
The optimistic statement followed multiple Iranian officials stating that Tehran would not give up its nuclear enrichment program. Several US officials have said that Washington will not reach a new deal with Tehran unless the Islamic Republic dismantles its enrichment program.
Donald Trump’s Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff, who is leading the US talks with Iran, said Sunday that Washington would not allow Tehran to keep any enrichment capabilities. “We have one very, very clear red line, and that is enrichment. We cannot allow even one percent of an enrichment capability,” he said.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei responded on Tuesday, calling Witkoff’s remarks “utter nonsense.” “For them to say, ‘we won’t allow uranium enrichment,’ is utter nonsense,” he explained.
Before the talks on Friday morning, Araghchi wrote on X that demanding Iran dismantle its nuclear enrichment program was a red line. “Figuring out the path to a deal is not rocket science. Zero nuclear weapons = we DO have a deal. Zero enrichment = we do NOT have a deal. Time to decide…”
While Araghchi’s remarks following the meeting were positive, the Omani mediator’s statement was notably less positive. “The fifth round of Iran-US talks have concluded today in Rome with some but not conclusive progress. We hope to clarify the remaining issues in the coming days, to allow us to proceed towards the common goal of reaching a sustainable and honourable agreement,” Muscat said.

I guess Trump finally sent some competent people to the talks.
The aspirations and ambitions of Iran's Islamic regime with regard to its nuclear research program pose dangers for the Middle East.

Get a job. The zionaZiz are threatening to nuke Gaza.
Israel can never nuke Gaza because the mediterranean winds will carry the fallout across Israel and the West Bank.
Otherwise it would be OK, right Reinhard?
Unnecessary, but Hamas needs to be irradiated. Hezbollah and Hamas are considered terrorist organizations, designated as such by a number of Countries, to include the Arab League, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Your language of genocide is the most shameful crime of those who once cried never again and then went out and did exactly what the Nazis and Ukrainians did to them.
Just the opposite. You are having delusions of relevance again.
This is true of any and all nuclear nations!!! Time to denuke the planet!!!
Do you know how many people were killed in WWII Europe, Asia, Russian Empire, and in the North African campaign with traditional weapons.
The two atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused an estimated 150,000 died from the initial blasts, while an estimated 2.6 to 3.1 million Japanese individuals died, with military deaths accounting for 2.1 million. —-How many more would have died if the two nuclear bombs had not stopped the war immediately???
If you could get North Korea, Russia, China, Pakistan, to agree, it would be a good start.
Trump can't figure out what part of his base to please and what part to piss off.
““The fifth round of Iran-US talks have concluded today in Rome with some but not conclusive progress. We hope to clarify the remaining issues in the coming days, to allow us to proceed towards the common goal of reaching a sustainable and honourable agreement,” Muscat said.”
Actually, that does not seem “notably less positive” to me … no one looked for conclusive progress in this round after all.
Hoping against hope that a win-win is still achievable. For example, an agreement that enrichment is indeed a right; but a two-year pause by Iran as a confidence building measure …?
Note that Iran’s main point in re to enrichment has always been (1) that they have the tech so don’t push them or else; and (2) making sure they can’t be isolated for fuel or medical isotopes through sanctions. They have proven both. At this point, their very expensive and inefficient enrichment is a net loss, compared to purchasing from Russia.
What part of these equations is unclear to US for such a prolog meeting sessions…?!!!
Max Blumenthal: Iran Suspects Trump Talks as Sabotage
May 23, 2025
After each encouraging exchange, Iranians have watched key Trump negotiators issue bellicose statements to media in Washington, essentially reversing the positions they had taken in Oman.

Excellent read. Thank you.
But what is the alternative, friends? What does Max propose Iran do other than negotiate and get the best deal they can get? Here's my nightmare scenario:
If Iran cannot get the deal restarted or replaced, there are snap-back provisions in the old 2015 deal that can be automatically activated this year … no new UNSC vote needed. The US could then claim to be working to implement a SC order by stopping all Iran oil exports, which would starve the country. Iran would naturally lash out, perhaps block the Hormuz Strait and choke oil flow. A devastating bombardment would ensue, as the ghouls have been working on for 20 years.
There are many times where a bad deal is much better than no deal at all …
You can’t push a country into the stone age.
The point Max is making is that the Trump “negotiations” are theater, in bad faith.
Israel wants to bomb Iran. Both the US and Israel want to overturn their govt.
A pretend diplomatic approach is not diplomacy at all.
Well, you can certainly bomb a country to the stone age. Iran's electric grid is already rickety … a few attacks in the right areas and a modern nation is all of a sudden dealing with no refrigeration and clean water.
You use the theater to get the best deal you can get … that's the task they have. They may or may not succeed; but that is the task. Trump has more than one constituency, so that's part of his confused dealings. For example, I don't think his Arab best buddies want him to attack Iran.
Israel and US hawks want regime change, good deal, bad deal or no deal at all. It's not like anything is going to change. Ballistic missiles and allies are also verboten.
Like I said below, Israel and US hawks are Not Trump's only constituency … he has bigger fish to fry and he knows it (or I hope so) …
Destroying Iran is part of Israel’s plot. It is part of weakening Russia thru the backdoor, and cutting off China’s supply of oil from them.
The Saudis are self serving and will accept destruction of Iran with a bigger bribe, IMO.
“Caring” about Palestinians or Iran is theater for Muslim masses.
You understand that even if they come up with some chamberlain peace agreement, it’s only buying time to prepare for the war ahead?
Mark Levin said this out loud on his shouting program during the weekends. He sees it as a good thing and that "we" are almost there controlling the Middle East and isolating Russia and China forever.
He’s a dick.
I said the same thing. I guess we think differently on which part of his constituency he will decide to please. But I just don't think it matters even if Iran decided to give up enrichment completely.
US does not make deals it threatens. Or if actual deals are made it is the US who breaks them first every time.
Apr 22.,2025 'Open to talks but…': Iranian Prez on US' 'pressure tactics' in negotiations | US-Iran nuke tensions
TIranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed openness to reaching an agreement with the United States in ongoing indirect talks, provided that Iran's national interests are preserved. Speaking during a meeting with provincial governors, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran is neither overly optimistic nor pessimistic about the negotiations. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei echoed this sentiment, stressing caution while highlighting Iran's resistance to coercion. The latest round of talks, mediated by Oman, was described as ‘very good’ by US President Donald Trump.

Iran is getting the traditional American bag filled with nothing – what are they, Americans? In exchange for letting a genocide complete quietly, they get to be attacked later instead of sooner.
It seems US did not understand the purpose previous negotiations… So Iran had to re-educate US again…!
There won't be a sixth meeting if this nonsense US demand persists…!
The fact that Iran has already agreed to enrich to 3.67% (old JCPOA level) for their nuclear power plant and give up the 20% for their medicine isotopes requirement, and import it instead should be good starter for US…! Otherwise as the US zero enrichment demand continues so does the Iran demand to 20% level…!
